I have been getting letters to my address from a local gym requesting payment for membership or the debt will be passed onto a recovery company.

However the person this belongs doesn't live here and i don't even know who it is. I have rang the gym a few times saying that this person doesn't live here and i don't know who it is but seems like they aren't doing much about it.

Its only owned a few hundred pounds. How do i stand with this ? Can it effect my household ?

Hi,

Firstly your address won't be blacklisted, it is the person who owes the money.

Write to the gym and inform them of this and tell them if they don't desist you will take things further.

As to debt collectors they don't have a leg to stand on. I doubt they would take you to court but if they do then let them do it and claim compensation!!

The debt belongs to that person not your household.

Don't open it again, cross off your address on the front and put "not known at this address, return to sender" on the front and pop it in the post box.
