Cany anyone tell me why my bank account maybe frozen after BR, we are due to go BR in April, we have a basic account with Alliance-LEicester, no overdraft, no cheque card and no debts with them. Both our salaries go into this account and we only use it to pay bills and withdraw money, will we really have to find an alternative bank.

I would recommend the Co-op Cashminder account as well. I opened one after I went BR and I've had no problems with it. Even though I don't have a branch nearby it's been ok as you can pay in and withdraw money at the Post Office and the customer service on the telephone is brilliant.

Where there's life there's hope!

Hi Kadge,

Upon you declaring yourself BR, Your BR will be advertised in the London Gazette, It is usual from this advert that all financial accounts will be frozen.

If there is no overdraft or money owing to this bank you could ask the OR to supply a letter to say it is ok for your continuation of this account, however it will be down to the discretion of the bank.

You can try the cashminder account from the CO-OP, they are a BR friendly bank.

I hope this helps,

Kind Regards,
