I am about to go bankrupt and I have just remembered that I read somewhere that if a person goes bankrupt - everyone at the same address could be affected.

My son is at university and my concern is that his credit rating will be affected and that he won't be able to get his student loans.

Hi Amanda,

Each of the reference agencies have different procedures and their own forms so to be on the safe side do them all.

Hope this helps

Thanks very much Brett. You are all very helpful on this website.

One more question - should he file a separate application with each credit company or does the information get passed on?

Hi Amanda,

He will be able to file it now, as soon as he disassociates himself from you financially this will be ongoing.

Hi Melanie

Thanks so much for your reply.

Would my son be able to file the notice now or does he have to wait until or if he has difficulty?

Your son will be able to file a "Notice of Disassociation" from you at the credit scoring agencies which will disconnect his from your credit rating if he runs into difficulties in the future.

For an informal chat about any financial difficulties, or advice as to the options available, I can be contacted via my website - www.melaniegiles.com
