Posted - 26 April 2008 : 08:12:12 In the Mirror newspaper recently they were backing a Quidity card - a pre-paid credit card. You have to pay £5 for the card and £4.95 upfront for the first years fee but there is no monthly fee and transaction costs are as follows....
Card Fee £5.00 Monthly Management Fee FREE Transaction Fee 2.95% Top Up Fee Post Office® FREE Top Up Fee PayPoint 3% Top Up Fee Credit/Debit Card 1.95% (subject to £1.00 minimum fee) Wage / Bank Transfer to card FREE ATM Withdrawal Fee £1.50 (+ additional 2% for charges over £50) Phone / Internet Balance Enquiry FREE Annual Renewal Fee (Payable at first top up) £4.95
Not sure how it compares to others in terms of rates for using it. Another option maybe to the other pre-paid cards might be worth googling for more info if you can't get a bank account.
There are a lot of providers for pre-paid cards out there. I have been using one myself since my bankruptcy and it's been a godsend as the basic bank account I opened didn't give me a debit card.
I would suggest you do your homework, but they all seem to be pretty much the same to me!
if you go onto www.moneysupermarket.com and click on the credit card link then search for pre-paid credit cards this will give you a page of results on all the prepaid cards including the mirror backed Quidity card and it will also give you the amounts to pay up front, normally with a debt card payment 1st off, it will also give you all monthly fees if any and if you need to pay for the card for the next year and what happens if you don't pay the fees and where your money goes etc.
