Im looking on advice for how to go about finding somewhere to rent after you go bankcrupt? I currently have a house with mortgage but am due in court to go bankcrupt on the 6th May, is it hard to find places that will accept bankcrupts?

Hi There

My wife and I rent a property privately and we have the landlord call once a week to collect the rent. He does not do credit checks and only accepts cash (and housing benefit paid direct to him by the council)

I suggest that you try and find a private rented property in your local Ad Trader (yellow free ads) or your local free weekly paper or local daily ie echo. You will have more luck renting private straight from the house owner instead of the estate agents.

Hope this helps

Hi CMC,

As Bear and Vicki have said it is always easier to find a rental property prior to a Bankruptcy Order, if however you find that this is not possible, you will still be able to rent after the Bankruptcy, but some letting agents will reject you on these grounds.

Kind Regards,

Yes I have read that its best to find somewhere first then go BR. An expert may suggest delaying BR court date to give yourself time.

Hi, I'm no expert but am bankrupt as of 25th Jan 08. My wife and I found a place on 20th December and had moved in by 4th Jan-and we did this on purpose so as to not be BR when we were credit checked. I would suggest finding a house asap...
Good luck
