Posted - 27 May 2008 : 17:30:12 More advice please, with me having a date of the 24th June i just keep thinking of more questions..
I have a small doorstep loan with Provident, value of £400. The problem i have is that the collector is a woman who knows everyone in our area and would definetely blab to everyone about my BR. I was going to pay her off prior to BR and not mention it to the OR as it is only a small amount but i am now wondering whether the OR will know about this through my credit file? I am stuck between listing Provident and everyone will then know i am BR or paying it off and then ending up with a BRO / BRU. Of course people may read about me in the paper but equally i might be lucky and nobody will see it. However if Provident are a creditor then everyone WILL know.
HELP!!!!

Posted - 28 May 2008 : 11:42:05 Hi Hammy,
It is best to remember that the OR will examine your conduct prior to and during your bankruptcy. I would suggest that you are best off listing them as a creditor and accept the consequences. A big no-no is making preferrential payments to creditors to improve the position with that creditor. In any event, your bankruptcy will still be advertised in the local paper anyway, so she will just be telling people something they already know!

Posted - 27 May 2008 : 19:28:30 Hi Hammy - don't forget if she reads the bankruptcy notice she/Provident may contact the OR directly. I am unfamiliar with the way they operate but Provident are a big company, don't they update your credit file when a loan is paid off or defaulted? The collector sounds a nightmare - surely they must have a code of privacy, confidentiality, data protection act, or something you can "remind" her of to stop her blabbing!

Posted - 27 May 2008 : 19:26:54 put it this way..I've been using provident for 11years and always look at CRA and never seen anything from them.BUT dont know what checks the OR will do AND if you have a Vanquis Credit Card they are the same company. |

Posted - 27 May 2008 : 19:19:23 They don't report to the CRA? Does that mean if i was to leave it off my SOA the OR would be non the wiser? It isn't that i don't want to let this lady down it is simply that if she knows then everybody will know. |

Posted - 27 May 2008 : 18:38:16 Hi Hammy0107 As you can see from my previous post I have loans from Provident too.I'm in the situation that I have know this women for years and didnt want to let her down.Thinking about it I could leave Provident off my SAO because they dont report to the CRA, but also thinking they have such high interest rates to cover themselves for BR and so used to this happening.Therfore the nice lady who collects each week isnt really a friend just a front for there business.
