Hiya

I have my telephone interview with the OR on Friday, what should I expect, what will they ask me, what do I need to prepare & what happens after?

Sorry for the 20 questions.

Thanks

Hi Tikka
Don't worry to much,I was worried sick but most of it was comfirming what was written on the SOA. It helps to have your copy in front of you, i used a highlighter pen on any bits the examiner needed more info. remember there not there to judge you they just need to get some kind of understanding your not on your own. Good Luck

Tikka - I know exactly how you feel. You can look back and think why on earth did I spend that - hindsight is a great thing!
If you took the loan out to manage debts then I can't see the OR being interested in it.
Was this all some time ago Tikka?

Thanks, I guess I just feel I should have been more grown up and in control of myself & my money & not ended up in this position.

Another little worry I have is when my ex & I were in the process of selling the joint house, I stayed living in the house whilst he rented elsewhere, I took on all the bills for the house on my salary which was just over £1k, and the mortgage was just under £1k. In order to survie he insited I took out a loan for £3k to cover the rest of the bills (this is where I started using credit cards) Anyhow my worry is he refused point blank to pay his half towards the mortage & bills during this time even though his name was on the mortage & how if I refused to pay he would be black listed & he was an accountant so that wouldnt be good for him. He claimed he wasnt living there, why should he pay, he had to pay rent & bills. At the time my family told me I shoud have not allowed this & I should have sort legal advice... When the house was sold he also refused to pay half the loan back we got the money from the sale of the house.

Can the OR persue him for this, or am I am being over worried? We also signed a document as part of the divorce which prevents either of us claiming money from the other person in the case of lottery, inheritance & I would guess maybe in this case?

Hi Tikka

My OR interview was about an hour -but it didn't seem that long.
My examiner was really approachable and quite sensitive to my situation. I know I came across as totally embarassed and ashamed....maybe that helped?

She started with the reasons for my debt and spent most of the interview talking about that really - didn't go into my expenses - just said they all seemed reasonable.

Definately have your SOA handy and a pen and paper - there were a couple of things my examiner wanted posting on after the interview.

The worse bit was waiting for the phone to ring and it still made me jump!!
Good luck - you'll be fine

Hi Tikka,

No need to worry. your story is not much different to many the OR will see. In addition, most people exhaust all lines of available credit before going BR. As long as your BF paid fair value for the car, you shouldn't have anmy problems at all.

Thanks Julian

So telling them that my chain of events is I split up with my ex husband and was devastated & out of control of all aspects of life is how it started and before I relaised where I was I was consolidating loans thinking it would be more affordable when it wasnt..

Mainly the loans were used to consolidate the credit cards & the 2 credit cards I have on my statement of affairs was one balance transfer plus living expenses & the other is soley living expenses as is my overdraft. I bascially lived beyond my means to console myself over the break up, I had no idea how to budget when I came out the relationship - he took care of all that..

I have no assest now, sold my car to my bf so I can still have use of it & sent them the chq for the balance earlier this week.

When I sent back the paperwork they wanted from me, I enclosed a letter from my BF as I live with him & I am to all intents his lodger, I pay rent to him, I am bit worried about that also.

Sorry!!

Hi Tikka,

The telephone interview with the OR is quite a simple affair ... mine only lasted 20 minutes.

The OR will want to know your "story" ...ie, what chain of events has led you to their door. In addition, they will ask what the debts were used for (here, it would be handy to have a copy of your Statement of Affairs). Also, if you have any assets like a property or car worth more than £2500, they will want the details with a view to potentially realising those assets for the benefit of your creditors.

I hope thisd helps.
