Hello again,

My own BR is into its 3rd month but my wife has not yet taken the plunge. She needs to soon. She is worried that because she is a nurse she might be sacked or disciplined or ridiculed if she goes bankrupt. I have told her that stigma-wise it is unlikely that anyone other than the HR dept and the people who do her nursing payroll (a sub contracted company) would have any inkling of the BR and only then because a Nil Tax Code would be applied to her wages for the rest of the tax year in which she goes bankrupt. Her ward manager and colleagues would be unlikely to know as there would be no need for her HR to inform her manager. I have also advised my wife that as long as there is nothing in her terms of employment requiring her to disclose BR then she does not need to say anything about it. There is nothing in her T&C's. Added to this, the professional body for nurses: the Nursing and Midwifery Council, do not dismiss people or discipline them for BR, so this is another reason she has little to fear.

Does anyone know of any pitfalls for nurses going BR? i would have thought quite a lot do, after all.

I have also dealt with many nurses both under bankruptcy proceedings and IVAs and never had an issue with ongoing employment.
