Posted - 14 May 2008 : 13:36:28 I have just finished the OR phone interview and it seemed to go OK. At the end of it the clerk told me that there would be no debt after the BR has ended and that I should refer any creditor hassle to their office.
Although the sun is shining and the birds are singing I feel no elation from this; naturally, I feel relieved but the thought of walks in the park hand in hand with my girlfriend - down leafy lanes with babbling brooks - does not really cut it with me as far as my bankruptcy is concerned.
Listening intently to the clerk telling me that I was running up debt I could not afford and that the OR has the power to close down what measly bit of my business I have left, if they so required, seemed to drive the point home.
When I look back I could see that a lot of my decisions were perhaps the cause of my misfortune and I do have regrets. But I will not be celebrating, I'm a bit less skint that I was but now I know I have nothing to fall back on and the cards will fall where they may. Instead of relying on credit to save me I'll have to spend the rest of my working life avoiding getting myself into the same stupid mess again. |

Posted - 21 May 2008 : 13:28:16 Yes, very good advice. I'm sure there is help on here available and perhaps there are "accredited" practitioners that are known to the help organisations, my main point was to make sure that if your circumstances are complicated then the RIGHT help is very useful. No doubt there are many companies that will kick a man when he's down, there always are. |

Posted - 18 May 2008 : 18:22:56 Following on from antp's above post.... I went through a Bankruptcy Help company, part of the same big company that I had used for a debt management plan, and paid £450-00 for their services. When I spoke to the C.A.B. and told them this, they rang the company to ask what they had done for the £450-00. Basically they had filled in the forms for me after a telephone Q+A session. If I hadn't had to find the money to pay these people I could have gone BR a month or two earlier. Get Help.. Yes but make sure you are aware of what you are getting! |

Posted - 18 May 2008 : 13:00:29 Thanks for that, I might feel a bit better when it has all finished and I am discharged; hopefully it will be early, as I think mine was quite straightforward. Anyone else reading that wants to go BR my advice is, unless it is a straightforward case not involving houses and lots of assets (and perhaps lack of adequate records, etc.), is... GET HELP - GET HELP - GET HELP - GET ADVICE - GET ADVICE - GET ADVICE! If it means paying then I think the money would be well worth it if you can raise it. NOT EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW CAN BE FOUND FOR FREE ON THE INTERNET. Good Luck! |

Posted - 14 May 2008 : 19:36:26 Hi antp,
I am pleased it went well for you.
It is good that you can identify your mistakes and I would not have regrets regarding your situation, but use it as experience to learn from.
Kind Regards,

Posted - 14 May 2008 : 13:55:27 I'll second that! Its amazing how "easy" it was to get into this mess and how much stress and heartache it causes. Money scares the life out of me now. I never want to see another credit card or loan form ever again! Glad you got today over with - here's to a debt free future!
