Posted - 15 May 2008 : 15:41:10 How far back will the OR usually ask for bank statements?
Also on the SOA form it asks about gambling, like most people i have a flutter on the Grand National and the Derby but i can't remember how much i put on for the last 2 years(anything from £40 to £100 i guess). What should i put?
I am aslo worried about what reasons to put for getting into debt. If is viewed as matter of fact then i have got into debt by living above my means, however nothing in life is that straight forward. I have my own personal reasons for overspending but i don't want to seem like i am asking for sympathy which i am not. I am worried that if i open up and give a background of trying to buy love, my dad committing suicide and screwing my head up etc i will feel like i am making excuses. However if i simply own up to overspending and living above my means i am worried i will get a BRU or whatever it is. Any thoughts on how much or little information i should be giving without getting myself into trouble with the OR? |

Posted - 16 May 2008 : 19:37:13 Hi Hammy,
As Vicki says don't worry as the OR can get hold of these statements from the card companies and relevant banks, just supply them with what you have.

Posted - 16 May 2008 : 07:41:39 I think the OR has ways of getting any information that is missing should they need it. I got a copy of my credit report and all the details on it (not what you spent the money on unfortunately!) and that helped with the form filling bit. I was in an IVA for two years so didn't have a single card, loan form, statement or anything like that to give the OR and it hasn't been a problem.

Posted - 15 May 2008 : 19:39:33 I should be able to get hold of bank statements but credit card statements i shredded each month and loan agreements i haven't got a clue where they would be. I have been paying into a DMP for over 2 years and most loans have been transferred to agents or been bought etc. I haven't actually took out a loan for a couple of years or so and therefore really don't think i can put my hands on agreements etc. What would i do if i can't get hold of agreements or credit card statements? |

Posted - 15 May 2008 : 17:16:14 Hi Hammy,
As the others have said 12 months for Bank Statements, but don't worry if you don't have all of these.
As far as the reasons for debt be Honest, It doesn’t matter if it comes across as a sob story, it sounds like you have had a difficult time and the OR just wants to see your reasons for the debts.

Posted - 15 May 2008 : 16:25:30 I was asked for 12 months of bank statements and my loan agreements. If you have a look at my blog I have listed what I had to produce for the OR.
Regarding the gambling section - I had a National Lottery account and a Ladbrokes account, but because they were only used for the odd flutter now and then I didn't declare them.
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Posted - 15 May 2008 : 15:54:05 Hi Hammy My OR asked for 12 months of bank statements and credit card statements, any loan agreements, and 3 months wage slips in the bumph I got from them before my phone interview. I assumed the gambling bit meant serious gambling - the sort that would put you into debt not the odd bet. I guess you have to be honest about the reason for your debt, my examiner quizzed me about this, and I was clear I did all I could to try and pay them off over the years. I had two debt consolidation loans but she didn't really mention these! She was more interested in how the debt had built up and how it had got out of control - and that's what it did! I financially supported my husband whilst he worked for peanuts for his father - my wage and credit cards took a battering for years! Hope this helps - your well on your way to sorting your debt problems out - good luck Hammy
