In December 2007 I finally got the Pancreatic Transplant I'd been waiting for to restore my health and make me better. Since December 2007 I have been unable to work due to some complications and my adverse reactions to the life saving drugs I will have to take for the remainder of my life. I fell behind with my mortgage payments and now as a result Northern Rock have got an eviction order against me to evict me from my home on the 21st May. I am a embassador of the Health Service here in Manchester and I have letters of well wishes towards my recovery from Buckingham Palace and No 10 Downing Street. My Consultant Transplant Surgeon has also provided me with a letter of support stating my predicaments and asking those that deal with me to take them into account and support me.

I was given 16 days notice to pack up and move out, which in my current situation with my recovery I have been unable to do so far, I have pleaded with Northern Rock to give me more time. I have spent days frantically searching the web, driving the streets, phoning around, visiting properties all with an aim of finding somewhere suitable to call home. Not just anywhere will do though because I will be on a course of immuno-suppressant, anti-rejection and steroid drugs for ever I have to be very selective as to where I live due to the increased risk of me contracting viruses, causing organ rejection or even death. I have done so much that I am now feeling drained, tired and poorly to a point that its an effort just to live daily life without all these added pressures.

So in a few days time I will be homeless and on the street at risk. What can I do?

Well done Alan,

As I said when we spoke on the phone always best to go to court even if you get a call from the mortgage company allowing more time.

When dealing with large financial institutions one hand quite often has no idea what the other is doing.

If you had not of attended the Judge would have granted the eviction order in default of your non attendance.

I'm glad it all worked out in the end.

Kind Regards,

Went to Court and NR's Solicitor didn't have a clue what was going on and had to ring the office before the hearing. It is to be reviewed again on the 25th July :o)

Thanks everyone

I have just received a call from a senior Manager in Collections at Northern Rock who said that they are going to cancel the eviction thats due to take place tomorrow, give me 56 days to find alternative accommodation at which time if I'm still in my property after that they will then apply for another eviction order.......

I then phoned the Court and there advice was still attend the hearing later today - just in case........

Dear All

I have spoken to the council re: Housing Benefit, which I am entitled to if the place where I live is rented. After you have been unemployed for 9 months they will then consider paying the Interest Only. As I only theoretically became unemployed as of the 31st March I don't qualify.

I contacted my Local Councillor and my MP. I have been contacted by Directors at the council and it seems like they are pulling out all the stops. I have at least 6 properties to look at later this week. I have also just received a call from my Case Worker in Housing and meeting with them after Court this afternoon.

I've just left my details with an Advisor at Brett's company asking him to call me back.

Thank you for your comments :o).

Hi Alan,

Have you spoken to the council regarding Housing Benefit, dependent on your circumstances you should have an entitlement for assistance with your mortgage payments and may well be able to back date this to clear your arrears?

It may not cover all of it, but it could pay a good percentage of it to enable you to negotiate with the mortgage company.

Alan

really suggest you give brett a call for some practical advice re the court date. He may also give you some helpful pointers.

Have you spoken to the council about the eviction yet? Normally they are quite slow in helping folk but with the proof of eviction and timescales they may be able to help as a matter of urgency.

Brett

In answer to your questions:

No I don't have sickness cover anymore as after I was ill last year they refused to pay out claiming that it was a complication of my original illness - Diabetes.

Presently my income is IB at £98.45 / wk.

Property value - approx £120 - 125k
Value of mortgage £140,234.

Arrears - £4,329.

Something good came out of today although I've never felt as alone in this world as I did today and it felt like I'd spent allday banging my head against a brick wall. I've got a court hearing to suspend the eviction. I'll let you know the outcome?

Alan - I am so sorry to hear about your situation.
Please get back in touch with the information Brett needs - you will get some sound advice from the experts on this forum.
Sometimes these big companies forget they have a heart - and Northern Rock need all the good press they can get at the minute!!
I do hope you are able to sort something out really soon.
Take care

Hi Alan,

I’m sorry to here of your situation,

Firstly I have to ask the question whether there is any Accident or Sickness insurance tie in with your mortgage?

With some more information I will try to give you some advice and options on your current situation.

Have you any earning capability or are you in receipt of any benefits presently?

What is your property value and the value on mortgage?

And lastly,

What are your arrears on your mortgage?

Kind Regards,
