Hi
10 years ago I had over 400k in savings now I have nothing but 150k in credit card debt. All due to losing my job and not being able to work because of suffering from Chronic Cluster migraine and clinical depression (Under the doc for both) and gambling.

It did not start that way due to being unemployable and having migraine attacks that lasted some 3-4 days I really thought that I could work from home and try to make a small living from trading shares, spread betting and playing online poker (other people do so why cant I) So I invested in training, trading software and spent many 16hr days trying to succeed, WHAT A FOOL

I am now going bankrupt with no income, assets, money or property. I am now totally confused and desperate as to how this happened over the years.

I try to remember the past 10 years as to how I have got into this situation and I truly don’t know. I am so confused that I even looked up on the Internet how many pills you need to take to die. I bought 150 panadol and took them. ALL that happened was 3 days of vomiting so I cant even get that right!

So I am completing the bankruptcy forms as best I can but I truly cannot remember the detail of how I got here.

It is clear that I have lost all my money and a lot of the credit card money in what is coincided gambling in desperation last week I sold my car for £6 k and lost it in a private poker game.

I am sorry for the above rambling but there is a question

Over 4 years of marriage I have paid the expenses of living (no great purchases) however she owns her house outright and has done so for over 20 years.

For 10 years prior to our marriage I was off/on living with my wife to be and paid most of the living expenses (insurance, car tax, ood, council tax holidays etc) all
Utilities are in her name.

Would the OR take the view that there is a beneficial interest in her property and if so
What does he do?

Please help

Hi Tolate
Welcome to the forum. You are definately in the right place for advice and support!
Don't be alone - we have all been, or are going through, exactly the same as you and will try to help you.
My hubby suffers from cluster migraines and they absolutely wipe him out. He can go months without them and then weeks getting them day after day.
I can totally appreciate how it affects your life.

Now you've taken the first step to sorting your debt problems out - so keep posting and good luck!

Hi,

Good luck with whatever you decide. I lost 180K on spreadbetting the markets, like you, and went BR last week.

Hi Tolate01,

I would suggest calling the helpline who should be able to advise you further.

Thank you for your reply ,

I think I have bank statements to show what I have paid on/for
her property.

Could I ask how do I find out what contributes to beneficial interest

who could I talk to

I would like to find out before I go bankrupt

Thanks again

Hi Tolate01 and welcome to the forum.

As the property has been in your wife's sole name, the OR will need to prove you have a beneficial interest in the property. Given what's happened to you over the years, I believe it's reasonable to assume your beneficial interest would be minimal. Do you have bank statements etc to back this up?
