Good Morning everybody.

Just a short post to let everyone know that D-Day has now arrived (2 days early this year!) - as I have my BR Petition appointment this morning at my local high court (Tunbridge Wells).

Am feeling very nervous but will be glad/relieved when it's over and especially so when I've also had the OR Interview (don't know if it'll happen today or some future date...)

I'll post again later to say how it went...

Glad it sent smoothly Andy.
It's a nice feeling to get it out of the way.

Hi Andy,

Well done, it is a very simple non judgmental process as is the OR interview, really it is administrative the more information you give the less time it takes.

In most of the cases we deal with the court staff and the Insolvency service staff are very compassionate and helpful so try not to worry about your interview.
Before you know it will be over and done with.

Kind Regards,

Hi everyone!

Well, I'm still here and still smiling at the end of this momentous day, except now I'm officially an undischarged bankrupt!!

As so many people on here have already mentioned, the fear of the court hearing is often a lot worse than the event itself, and this has definitely been the case for me today.

I arrived at the court for my 9am appointment, and first met up with a chap from my local debt advice centre who was there as my Mckenzie friend, as he'd not previously seen what actually happens before in a BR court.

After a short wait, I was seen by a court clerk who went through my forms and made a couple of minor amendments, mainly little things that had not come through on the final printed version (I'd prepared my forms using the Insolvency Service's online system - which I would thoroughly recommend as it enabled me to make amendments right up to the last minute, and also meant that my forms were far more readable than they would have been hand written!)

It wasn't much longer after that that I was then required to swear on the bible and sign the affidavit in the forms.

After another period of waiting I went down to the main court area and was soon asked to go through to see the judge. He was a very normally dressed man in suit and tie, and was quite friendly. I was only there for about five minutes during which time he asked me whether I'd taken advice as to my course of action, had a look through my list of creditors, and read through my write up on the reasons I'd got into this financial crisis. He also said it was anyone's right to file for bankruptcy, and was happy to stamp and approve the petition.

Then I was sent back up to the court office, by which time my friend had to go off to his own work. I waited for another half hour or so until the OR office (which for Tunbridge Wells is in Chatham) had been in touch. When the call came through from them I was ushered into the court office to have a brief chat over the phone with a lady who wasn't the OR herself. She asked a few questions to verify my identity, and asked me about my bank account balance (most of which I had already withdrawn). She also advised me that I should now hear from the OR within 14 days. Then I was given a stamped set of my 6.27 & 6.28 forms, and also my Bankruptcy Order (6.30), and told to look after them carefully!

All in, I was at the court for about an hour & three quarters, and do feel relieved that this part of the process is over (though I'll no doubt be worrying a bit when the OR interview is due!).

However, for today I'm going to give myself a pat on the back for facing up to and dealing with my money problems head on, and to have now got this far!

Anyway, I'll continue to keep everyone updated with my progress, as I now start to rebuild a financial future that is NOT reliant on credit!!

Best wishes to everyone...
Andy
