Posted - 05 June 2008 : 17:58:47 I made the mistake of opening a bank account before my BR, for my IVA as my current bank is a creditor. When I made up my mind about going BR, I did not use this account which is a Natwest. Now they have sent me a notice for paying an overdraft charge of 28 pound as maintenance charges. They said the overdraft was actually the account fees of 12 pound which i had to pay as an account holder.I totally forgot about the fees,so they overdraft and took their monthly fee. I did not ask for an overdraft facilities. What will the OR think of such a situation?.What will happen to this money as Iam BR and this account will be frozen?

Posted - 06 June 2008 : 10:14:10 Hi Abd,
As these debts were (presumably) incurred prior to BR, just let the OR know and it will be written off and the account closed.
Posted - 06 June 2008 : 06:54:47 I would be tempted to speak to the OR and see how they want to deal with it. Don't worry about it abd - it's a small amount and I am sure the OR will see it as a genuine mistake.

Posted - 05 June 2008 : 20:41:09 Hi abd - does the OR know about this account? They will have notified them of your BR if they do and if that's the case I would speak to the OR and take their advice. If the OR doesn't know about it you can inform them and be totally honest about forgetting about it or, pay the £28 and close the account. Hang on for another expert though - they may advise you differently.
