Posted - 06 June 2008 : 13:47:28 Well I am now officially BR. All went very smoothly. Arrived at 08.30 BR by 11.15. Even spoke to the OR but may still get another phone call/interview.
Trying to set up new bank account though is getting me stressed. Went into nationwide and very helpful girl there gave me details of their card cash account but reading through it siad no to BR. Rang theri customer services and they too said NO. Abbey National need proof that i am allowed a band ac****! Natwesy said the same as NW and alliance and leicester. Co-op were very helpful but they are also one of hubbies creditors, the girl on the phone said might not be a prob as it was A cc who were taken over from Nrock. just got to wait for the paper work. Who does everyone else bank with...tearing my hair out.
May have to open acc in my name and get Hub to apy his wages in there and give him pocket money. |

Posted - 06 June 2008 : 16:17:20 Hi T Bird,
I wouldn't worry about a BR back in '91 as it only stays on your credit file for 6 years.
Enjoy the weekend!!!

Posted - 06 June 2008 : 16:12:50 Thanks everyone.
Co-op seems the best bet for me and they were lovely on the phone. Barclays are also a possibility for Hubby as they said ok to basic cash card account on the phone. Hubby was made bankrupt in 1991 BY barclays though will this make any difference?
Feel relieved today is over (bar the drinking!!!)be glad when all DD's are set up and running smoothly. Cant believe everyone was so nice and non judgemental (and sooooo busy!!!). Typically insolvency web site crashed yesterday when i was trying to do Hubs forms Lady at court said it was because they get so busy...nice (ish) to know we are not alone but a scary thought that so many others are facing the same.
thanks to everyone for advice and suport dont know how i would have got through these last few weeks without it. xx |

Posted - 06 June 2008 : 14:04:25 Hi T Bird,
I opened my account with Abbey the day after my BR. Although it is in the Bankers Code that everyone is entitled to a bank account (yes, even bankrupts), they seem to take it in turns to accept those who have gone BR. I would suggest taking plenty of ID as well as the Bankruptcy Order for a day in the high street .... someone is bound to say yes!!!

Posted - 06 June 2008 : 13:58:58 Hi t bird
I am with the co-op and have a cashminder account. I rang them on the day after I went BR and got the account details through within a few days.
Like you say you can always get an account just in your name and I like the idea of "hubby pocket money" !! Hopefully the co-op will ok a joint account - they seem to be the most relaxed about BR. Good luck!
