Posted - 09 June 2008 : 12:30:50 Looking back over my SOA's and i notice although it asks for other household contribution it doesn't actually ask how much my wife earns. The answer to this is she earns a total of £110 through child benefit and tax credit. It is only me going BR by the way. I have put her contribution down as £60 which is what she does contribute but how do we prove this is her only income? What is to say she doesn't earn £50k a year and we are trying to fiddle the system? |

Better hope he / she doesn't suspect then
Seriously i do think it is too open to abuse though.
Thanks though. |

Posted - 09 June 2008 : 13:15:39 Hi Hammy,
It's a fair point, but those are the rules. As a married couple are two seperate legal entities, the OR has to treat them as such. If the OR suspects that you are trying to abuse the system, he'll investigate.

But doesn't that leave the system open to abuse???
If that is the case then the more unscrupulous surely would put their other halfs contribution as low and therefore escape an IPA / IPO AND have a large surplus of cash available to them each month.
If that is correct then the system is seriously flawed and as i say open to abuse. |

Posted - 09 June 2008 : 12:35:12 Hi Hammy,
The OR is only interested in the contribution. Given benefits are deemed the minimum you can live on, I would suggest you'll be fine!
