Posted - 29 June 2008 : 09:35:46 I have allowed a relative to use my address for post, electoral register etc as they live on a holiday park.
They are now in financial meltdown and considering bancruptcy. Will this have any affect on me or my address?
My address has been used for bank statements, credit cards etc but I have been told nothing is secured?
Any info/advice would be appreciated.

Debt collectors can't take anything. Only bailiffs with a Warrant of Execution (following non-payment of a CCJ) can take goods away.

Posted - 30 June 2008 : 17:24:07 Ok, thanks that helps put my mind at rest.
Should I expect dept collectors knocking on the door trying to take anything of value? I really have no idea of what to expect should my relative take the bankruptcy route. I just hope they are being straight with me and haven't used my address as security for anything!
Many thanks for the replies. |

Posted - 29 June 2008 : 14:03:01 Sue is right, the person is bankrupt, not the address. However, you may find it harder to get credit. It might be worth checking your credit reports with the 3 credit reference agencies (Equifax, Experian and Call Credit). If you find you are associated with your relative you can file a notice of disassociation with them.
You can request your credit files by writing to each of the agencies with a cheque for £2. You can print the forms from each of the websites.
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Posted - 29 June 2008 : 12:39:40 Hi dogchub welcome to the forum. I think BR is the person and not the address. They will need to put the address that they are living at. Having said that an expert will be along shortly to answer your questions in more depth
