I have just had an interesting conversation with my next door neighbour. Apparently his partner has gone BR. The OR told her she was not allowed to own a car of any value. I know her car is not worth more than £2500. It felt inappropriate to ask how long ago this happened but i got the impression its fairly recent. Is this down to an OR interpretation or is there somewhere i can actually check the regulations. I want to know what is actually set out in black and white so i can fight my corner (so to speak) should it be necessary.

Not the best time to be self employed!

Hi Porcorosso,

The OR's will look at vehicles and you need to present a valid reason for keeping the car. The OR may have asked for the car and your neighbour may have just caved in and agreed to hand it over rather than presenting a valid argument to keep it.

Maybe she has no need for a car - is she working?
