i was discharged from bankruptcy 2 years ago. I am considering starting a business with friends but I do not want my adverse credit to affect the business or friends.

Can i become a diector of a business? and By becoming a director will my poor credit affect my friends?(ie will they be linked to me on the credit file?)

Hi Stuart,

Melanie is correct that your credit rating will affect the company (as will the ratings of your fellow directors). However .....

As long as you've "kept your nose clean" for the two years following discharge, you may well be surprised to find your credit rating isn't actually as bad as you think. Just before the credit crunch last August, I knew of a chap who (after being discharged for 3 years) obtained a £5M portfolio mortgage.

Hi there and welcome to the forum

You can definately become a company director, but your poor credit rating may affect the company's ability to raise credit.

For an informal chat about any financial difficulties, or advice as to the options available, I can be contacted via my website - www.melaniegiles.com
