Posted - 18 July 2008 : 14:59:46 Dear All,
After being on this forum for a couple of weeks now, and being very positive about the Co-op Cashminder account - I wish to take it all back!
I went into the branch last week and set up an account and they said it had been accepted, brilliant I thought, so i have started to get everything together to sort out all my direct debits only to receieve a letter today to say that they have declined it - and they give no reason why!
How can they accept it and then decline it? Not sure what to do next!
I get my wages paid into my sisters account, and I should be discharged in Nov 08, will it be easy enough to get a bank account with anyone then?
Thanks 369 |

Posted - 28 July 2008 : 17:41:10 369 you need to put everything in writing to the manager of the department. It does seem an awful long time to get the initial bill to you. In any case you should have had the bill pro rata'd i would put everything in writing and see how you get on.

Posted - 28 July 2008 : 17:28:58 Hi Drowning-Mummy,
I was worrying about this too, as we planned to open accounts with them after BR, but we spoke to the OR's office asking for advice and they suggested opening the accounts in advance, then asking OR to say he/she had no interest in the accout and hopefully they won't freeze it. Anyway, we phoned Co-op to ask about it and they said they shouldn't freeze the accounts but if there was a mistake and it did get frozen, it is very easy to reactivate it and it can be done with a quick phone call. Sooooo, both me and hubby have today opened our accounts over the phone-very quick and easy, and they gave me a contact number to ring them on to reactivate the accout just in case the accout does get frozen., although he seems sure it won't be! They SAID that's it and they can't be declined now, but let's wait and see huh?!
Good luck with yours!
CG. x
PS. I left you a message on 'buddy' thread last night! |

Posted - 28 July 2008 : 15:52:15 Basically i moved into the property in March 07 and the property had not been naded as it was seen as one property with the flat below...... then in Sept 07 the council said that they were going to come and band it.
I asked then for a estimate, and to set up a direct debit - i did not receive anything, they banded it at the beginning of October, I went bankrupt on the 2nd of Nov 07 and they sent me my first bill on the 25th Novemeber 07. But dated it back to March 07 - so my arguement was that I should only pay from Nov 3rd to when i moved out - they said no i have to pay the whole amount as i did not put any amount on my list of creditors - and i said yes that's because you took 6 weeks to write out a (excuse my laguage) bloody bill!!!
If they ahd just done it three weeks earlier apparantly I wouldnt have had to pay!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really want to complain - but have no way of knowing how to..... |

Posted - 28 July 2008 : 15:29:21 Hi was it a backdated bill. I am a council Tax manager and the bill should have been pro-rata until the date of your bankruptcy. was it the first bill that you had??? |

Posted - 28 July 2008 : 12:32:36 Oh yeah sorry i meant a Court Order.
Battled with the Council and with the OR, and it was included on my list of creditors - but because the Council didnt send me a bill until 3 weeks after I went bankrupt then apparantly at the time of bankruptcy i did not owe any council tax - but 3 weeks later i owed £700!!!
I battled for 7 months and they would not back down, my OR was so useless, kept changing their minds - saying don't pay it, only pay for 6 weeks, and then finally saying no you have to pay all of it!!!
And when you are bankrupt you obvisouly dont just have £700 to pay a council tax bill which you thought you wouldnt have to pay!!!
It just makes me so mad...if they had sent the bill 3 weeks earlier then it would have been included - how ridiculous is that?!

Posted - 28 July 2008 : 12:04:00 Hi 369 If your Council Tax debt is pre bankruptcy it should be included in the order - thus is not payable. also you cannot get a CCJ for Council Tax defaults!!!

Posted - 24 July 2008 : 10:05:14 Funny you should ask that!!!
I am actually paying two lots of council tax!!!
One for a previous property which i was told was included in the bankruptcy, only to then get a CCJ and then threatening me so I had to pay it, £700 in 10 days I had to find, and my OR dealt with the whole thing abismally - and I am writing to complain about them.
And - I am now paying my council tax on my current property.
So, don't think it is that!
Just want to know why they would decline me, as that is what they are there for - to accept people in our position! |

Posted - 23 July 2008 : 18:46:07 are you paying council tax at the moment? Or being billed currently? just a thought.

Posted - 18 July 2008 : 16:11:57 I called the Bank and they just said they were told it was declined, but not given any reasons why.....
I have written two letters asking why?
I will get the number when I get the letter from home and call them....
You think you have one problem solved finally, and then it all comes back on you.....
How's your bankruptcy going? |

Posted - 18 July 2008 : 15:51:48 Oh well yeah I am on the electoral role then - as I always receive a polling card.
Am so frustrated! And I had posted on here as well saying how good the Co-op are as well!
Just want to know why and then I might be able to change it!
But also, if I can't change it and I am automatically discharged in nov, will it be easy to get an account now I am discharged? |

Posted - 18 July 2008 : 15:16:09 You can be in this country for life and not be on the electoral register. You would need to contact your local council or go on their website which is what I did and fill in a form to apply for the right to vote. Once this is done they will write to you to confirm that you have been accepted... or not.
Basically it means you have the right to vote, you will know if you are registered because you would receive a polling card through the post each time there is an election.

Posted - 18 July 2008 : 15:06:41 I would imagine i was on the electoral role.....what is it exactly? I have worked in the UK for the past 10 years, I pay Tax and NI....!
Am so annoyed about it! They accepted me and then declined me two weeks later with no explanation! |
