Posted - 23 July 2008 : 12:57:55 How does the OR view leased cars? My current car is on its last legs and work has introduced a subsided lease car scheme. Having done the maths based on the last 12 months expenditure I should break even or be a little better off, but without the worry of what I do when my car finally gives up. I also know that it’s only a matter of time before my car will need some expensive repairs or replacing, which I cannot afford. In the last 12 months it cost over £350 in repairs etc and I feel that the next bill will be bigger. Could the OR make me give it back? And would the OR want the proceeds of the sale of my current car (probably only a few hundred pounds at best)?

Posted - 24 July 2008 : 09:37:19 Hi
If you sold your own car you would be expected to pay this money over to the OR if you were getting a lease car, unless the money from the sale of the car was to be used as a deposit.
Posted - 24 July 2008 : 09:26:33 Hi Brett, thanks for that. The car is a 'proper' lease car from a lease company,it just happens that within the group i work for is a lease car compnay so it is a perk for the staff to get a subsidied rate and it doesn't attract company car tax as i pay for it .i need it as my wife suffers from MS and we both work diferent hours in different locations what would happen with the procees if i sold my own car?

It sounds like the vehicle being a lease car would be the property of your employer therefore is this technically could be classed as a company car on the basis That normal company cars drivers pay extra in tax for the benefit of the company car you case does not sound to dissimilar .
