Hi again,

Just a quick question about how we go about handing the keys back to our property. Do we just call the mortgage lender and the secured lender, or do we write to them, or both? And do we actually physically hand the keys back? If so, how? And what do we say in any letter/phone call?

Ian will be doing this (i'm too scared!!), but I'd like to help him out by giving him an idea of how to do it!

Thanks

What a great neighbour!!!
The next year I would have chipped some piant off each window frame just before you went away!!!

Haha!

Thanks for the reassurance John. We don't have a lawn at the front, but we do have flower beds. Thinking about it though, I don't think the neighbours, or anyone else for that matter, will notice any difference in the level of weeds in there-they've been terrible for the 7 years that we've been here-so much so that one year we came back from our holiday to find our next-door neighbour had got so fed up of looking at them, she weeded the beds ad planted flowers for us! Oooh shame on us!!

Hi
a change of locks and a for sale sign (and an ever growing front lawn of course).

Thanks John,

What would happen at the house if we did this? I just have visions of people turning up and asking the neighbours where we are or something, which we wouldn't want, as some of our neighbours are my pupils at school! Aargh!

Hi
clearly the least stressful way is to lay low and post the keys and an accompanying letter once BR.

Thanks John,

We're actually moving into rented this weekend (if we ever get packed in time! ), but because of the deposit and rent in advance etc, we won't have the BR fees until about a month today. Obviously the mortgage company and the secured lender won't have the details of where we are, so how would you suggest we do it in this case?

Thanks again,

Hi CG
it's optional really.
You could contact the 1st charge holder as I'm sure they will have a procedure for these things which will no doubt mean more forms and regular phone contact. All you could do with the secured loan company is inform them of your intentions.
The alternative is not to write or call until you're in the rental then post the keys back to the 1st charge holder together with a letter giving your bankruptcy number and the contact details of the Official Receiver's Office and the examiner dealing with your case.
