Posted - 17 August 2008 : 22:34:03 Well I may as well fess up now.
PLEASE any advice hugely appreciated.
I'll keep it short as I'm embarrassed.
When we were desperate to borrow money, we got rejected a couple of times.
I thought it may be my husbands length of service at his job that was stopping the application. So I said that he had been at his job longer than he had.
Seems so bloody stupid now, we planned on paying every penny back, so thought no harm in it (plus I've heard of people upping their salary to look good- although we didnt do this).
Now in hindsight, I am kicking myself. When the OR looks at the original application and my husbands P45's we are gonna be screwed!
What can we expect. BRU? most certainly! Criminal record? Please no. I would lose my job.
Sorry for not mentioning this sooner. I was so panicked. I dont see myself as a criminal, just a mum trying to keep a roof over her kids heads, but I know that some of you will now think differently of me.
Oh Lordy. Crying now. Gotta go. Sorry x

Posted - 19 August 2008 : 07:04:50 Wow! My best friend keeps telling me that our debts are a 'drop in the ocean' (me £8400)(hubby £16,000), but if you cant pay em', you cant pay em'!
Had no idea that you could look at cases on the register. Will go and have a nosey later.
Feels heaps better. Have learnt a small lesson, and glad I'm not the only one. Thanks for sharing everyone.

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 20:50:13 There's one guy on there with a 15 year BRO for defrauding HMRC out of something like £17,000,000! I think that puts things into perspective for the rest of us!

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 20:43:35 we all have something in our "closet" that we all worry about the OR finding, but they rarely do, either they are after bigger fish and/or too busy !!
read the BRU cases on the insolvency register, there are guys there up to far more horrendous "crimes" than I have read on any of these groups.
relax a little. |

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 20:19:31 Hi Mark My OR has my original loan agreement not the application. So god knows I dont really think it will be an issue, its like the OD, credit cards and loans we took, they were agreed and if you think about it we were out of depth then but they were agreed, the banks mors than willing to lend us the money. The OR has loan agreements too but no applications its all done on applications not on agreements that shows how much, when, and to sign and date. Dont worry,im not, I cant do anything now, i say im not to blame completely, the financial institutions should have cottoned on before they give you anymore instead of throwng it at you and then getting us in this mess, yes we could say no, but over time you end up in the no win situation, cant live with out credit as you just cant live. So chill and dont worry. JO

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 17:24:08 Hey DM Thats a good idea. To those reading this honestly i would say most people out there have done the wages higher for mortgages bit, so please dont panic, it is just one of those things. And most of the time its the only way to get the damn mortgage in the first place.
Oh and Mark We have all done it so dont PANIC the financial adviser knew what he was doing so if anyone was to blame its him just like C&G for me, she adjusted the books so to speak and so its her fault and not mine, they wanted the business and wanted to find a way round it and so its their fault, we only signed the thing. Take care Jo

Maybe we should start a new confessional thread?

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 10:28:41 Oh thank you all for being honest with me. I hardly slept last night for worry. Seems like every little thing terrifies at the moment. Think I'll blog it tonight as that usually helps.
We never did it on any loan applications where you sign and send back, just a couple of credit cards. I phoned my friend this morning and told her, but she laughed. She has no idea of the seriousness. She said everyone does it, yes but does everyone then go BR? No!
I'm hoping because the debts are relatively low and very straightforward that there will be no investigation. Fingers crossed and thanks for support. Just getting terrified now.

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 09:37:34 Hi DM unless the OR has strong reason to be of the opinion that your case requires detailed investigation I do not suppose for one minute that he would be studying, or even request a copy of, the original loan agreement. This is a minor issue to him.
And where on your SoA does it ask for both of your CV's so how would he pick up on that? He's human, no special powers, no crystal ball and he really isn't the grim reaper that many suspect.
As the date draws closer it's common for your thoughts to run away with you. Try and stay calm and try not to look for problems. As jo says, who hasn't?????
I lost count of the number of new kitchens I was having installed!!!!!!!

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 09:21:49 DM, I certainly don't think any different of you! You've come through so much, and you give such good advice - don't beat yourself up.
I have no idea what the OR will do, if anything, but I can't imagine for one minute that you would end up with a criminal record so try not to worry. I'm sure John or one of the other experts will be along soon to put your mind at rest x

Posted - 18 August 2008 : 07:10:50 Hey DM Thats not that bad mate, my mortgage co C&G made our wages look more and mine so that they could lend us more. So that too for us could constitute if you like for fraud. Dont worry mate, i dare say there are loads on here that have made a figure slightly higher to get a loan or whatever. Dont cry, whats done is done, like i said my mortgage was based on higher wages and we signed the thing although the bank made the figures. Take care mate TTFN JO PS Keep your chin up!
