I am applying to rent a property through an estate agent. They told me that they would be doing a credit check. I had been made bankrupt in 2002 and when I went to to my own credit check my bankruptcy is still showing on my check. Will this stop me from renting the property

Hi elizabeth

That would be the decision of the agent and or the landlord of the property.
Your bankruptcy will disappear from your credit report after 6 years so you can only have months to go.

As it was that long ago I can't see why an agent or landlord would refuse your application because of it but most tenancy agreements have a clause regarding current or ex bankrupts.

This is so that if you default on the rent they don't have to go through the normal channels to get an eviction.

Irrespective of whether the agreement contains the clause or not most landlords are happy providing the payments are met and on time.

An empty property is costly.
