Was reading someone's post on here who said once O2 found out they had gone BR their contract was cancelled and made to go PAYG.

Was wondering has anyone else been able to keep their monthly contract o2 phone once they became BR???

Hi all,

I spent a bit of time in the telecommunications industry and the networks do seem to move the goalposts regularly. I took out a brand new contract with O2 about 2 months AFTER having gone BR .... I just had to pay a £100 deposit which I got back after 6 months!

Hi Yeah,

I was confused to why they cancelled mine as i have always paid my bill on time and by DD but they still did it. But in a way that was a good thing as im now on PAYG and its worked out a lot cheaper for me :)
Maybe its just a few that they do it too, who knows they work in mysterious ways.

hi, dont want to confuse you anymore but i am on 02 with three phones in my name. i told the OR this in my interveiw and she wasnt bothered and said it was upto the company what they do when they find out. well 3mths down the line and i still have the 3 contracts and i even upgraded 2 of them with no problem. i have always paid the bill by DD and always on time so i dont know if that helped me or not

Hi further to my answering a post earlier about my account o2 informed me that when they knew that i had gone BR that they would not allow me to keep my contract and that once they had seen it advertised they would disconnect my phone.

They did this to me within the week of BR and now they have billed me for the rest of the contract term. On my SOA i wrote this on there as as unsecured debt to make sure that it was included.

I know now that this account has gone over to the OR well thats what they have said to me, but i did however go onto PAYG just before BR as i knew what they said they were going to do.

I dont know if that has helped at all but that is my personal experience of O2 and them allowing me to keep my contract. They said its part of their clause?

Hi Grantspants,

The £500 is in total. Given that your monthly bills are likely to be far less, the debt will (or should) never exceed £500 in any one month, so you should be fine! Anything o/s should be included in Section 4 (unsecured) on your SOA.

I was able to upgrade my phone when I was still BR - I was suprised, but Vodafone never even mentioned a credit check.

when you say £500 does that mean per year? I'm currently on o2 so the likelyhood is that they will cancel my contract which runs out on 22nd November after I go BR in october. How do I make sure that any outstanding contract money (£50 in this case) is included in my SOA, which section?

I never even thought about this until now, so thanks for reminding me

Thanks v much

Hi

i know of many people who have retained their contract phone. In reality if the contract is cancelled early then theoretically there is a shortfall because of a subsidised phone.

The key thing is not to obtain credit of £500 or more without first advising the creditor that you are currently in Br. Therefore make sure your bill doesn't go over £500 ( only likely if you are in business )

remember that you are unlikely to change / renew the phone or provider so make sure you have the right contract & phone prior,
