Posted - 30 August 2008 : 14:57:32 Hi All,
As I've mentioned before on this forum, I'm considering going BR in the knowledge that I'll also be made redundant soon.
In order to boost my employment prospects I'm thinking about going on a course. Unfortunately this course costs £2000 and I'd need to pay for it using my credit card.
If I do this and then go bankrupt, will I be in trouble with the OR?
Any advice will be gratefully received ... |

Posted - 31 August 2008 : 09:35:53 Hi Andrew Whilst in principle that answer sounds good, but their are certain job resrictions in place and under that you really are obliged to tell them but obviously not all. Also if you entered into a BRU/BRO then again some jobs mean that you cannot be part of it. Best to check out the insolvency site or wait till someone with a bit more know about the Job side of things comes along or better still start a new thread. JO

Posted - 30 August 2008 : 19:56:14 Whilst on the topic of employment ...
I'm an IT software developer and many prospective employers will be financial institutions.
I know the employment prospects of accountants and lawyers, etc are severely affected by becoming BR but how would becoming BR affect my employment prospects?
Also, do such employment restrictions remain after discharge?
Thanks ... |

Posted - 30 August 2008 : 18:29:22 Thanks Everyone,
Looks like I'll need to think a lot harder about how to remain employed after my redundancy. |

Posted - 30 August 2008 : 15:19:26 Hi CG
That is how i would see it. The OR can take a very dim view on additional credit prior to BR and as you pointed out unless it is essential then it could be seen as maybe fraudulant, as again you have said taking credit without having the prospect of repaying it.
I would wait for one of the other experts to put their view across but if you do go down that route then it would be on your head, so to speak.
I hope i have helped also but again one of the other experts will know more than i do and will be able to give you better advice.
Like CG its how we see it only.

Posted - 30 August 2008 : 15:14:26 Hi b_n,
I'm no expert and am sure one will come along to give you a more knowledgeable reply, but my first instinct would be to say that unless it's absolutley essential, not to use any credit at all just prior to BR. It could well be seen as 'taking out credit with no real prospect of repayment', which is certainly frownedupon by the OR.
As I said I'm no expert and those are just my thoughts from what I've read. Hopefully an expert will come along soon and either confirm what I say or tell me it's a load of rubbish and correct it!
Take care and keep posting,
CG. x |
