HI,
I recieved a bank error and was paid 19.5k in the bank.
Im going to court over it soon and is costing me a lot of money, if i went bankrupt would i have to pay them back or not?

I agree with the others, it's impossible not to know that it was a mistake. Just because it was the bank's mistake doesn't make it right to spend the money. If you go BR the OR will take a very dim view and you will most likely get a BRU.
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

It was the bank's fault - but you also knew that money was not yours and you should have informed the bank straight away so they could take it back.
You wouldn't have been in this mess if you had.

This is what im gonna do, tbh guys me head in bits over it, it was thier misatake not mine, ive ended up on anti depressants over it all

There was one recently in New Zealand where £10 million was paid into an account and they did a runner.
Don't know if they have caught them or not!

I am sure there was a story in the news a while ago where this happened to someone, it was a very large amount of money and they spent it and got sent to prison in the end |

It pays to be honest.
You know that money isn't yours, so should sort it out straight way.
I know if there is anything different on my payslip I am straight on to payroll to get it sorted.

A while back there was a doctor who posted on the forum. He changed jobs within the same nhs trust and was paid his new salary in addition to receiving his old one in error.
As is was clearly an error and was not an oversight ( i.e. a few hundred pounds he was subject to a BRO. His employer also took civil action against him.

Couldn't agree more - if someone had paid that money into my account I would be straight on to the bank to sort it out.
Does sound a little fishy to me as well.

I agree with Kallis . . it seems the original poster knows this was an error and (in my opinion only) is prepared to go br to avoid paying it back.
This does give genuine people a very bad name. Please re-consider and come to an arrangement with your bank. |
