Posted - 23 January 2010 : 13:08:21 Just agreed to an IPA and only just received notification of an NT code even though declared bankrupt in September 2009 - I am really worried about my employer knowing as I occasionally handle money - my OR told me there should not be a need to tell employer - is there any other reason I may have been given an NT code if asked

Posted - 23 January 2010 : 14:25:24 I can't think of any of the top of my head as everyone normally need to pay tax. A quick google search beings up a site that mentions
quote:NT This code is an abbreviation of "No Tax" or "Nil Tax". It is applied by HMRC in exceptional circumstances to employees who are not required to pay tax on their earnings. Examples are students at university or college who only work during their holidays and some UK employees who work abroad.
Handling money when you are BR shouldn't be a problem and it is only your HR Dept that will be notified of the NT code. In April the code will revert to the normal tax code.
