Posted - 24 January 2010 : 09:13:43 We went bankcrupt in oct and have just had our letter saying that they are applying for early discharge. I suppose we could just wait a few months but We have a car at the moment which is worth £850 which goes wrong all the time and has loads wrong with it. We were allowed to keep this when we went bankcrupct. Our parents have offered to give us £750 to buy a new car. They will give us the £1600 to buy this car then we have to sell our car and give them back the £850
Can we do this ? Do we have to inform the OR ?
Thanks for your help :) |

Posted - 24 January 2010 : 11:16:15 My uncle offered me some money to buy a new car while I was bankrupt and I refused it, until I was discharged. As you said not point in rocking the boat. I would be patient if possible and wait until discharge.

Why dont you call the OR and tell them what your parents are proposing to do and see what response you get.
Just scared as hopefully in a few months will be discharged, don't want to rock the boat :( |

Posted - 24 January 2010 : 09:35:47 As long as you are an undischarged bankrupt you need to tell the OR of any extra income or windfalls, and they could take this from you.
Just wait until you are officially discharged, then you are free to do what you want with your money.
