Posted - 26 January 2010 : 15:06:20 My daughter is buying back our car for us from the OR. The agent has said that she will in effect become the owner and has said the log book will need to be changed. I have done some research, and the owner and registered keeper do not have to be the same person, but the registered keeper needs to have the insurance policy in their name. Am I right in thinking, that my name will have to stay on the log book as it is me that will be using the car but my daughter will actually own it. If this is not the case how would I be able to insure the car?

Posted - 26 January 2010 : 17:55:45 It sounds like the agent didn't really know what they were talking about as there is no reason you can't remain on the log book.
It sounds like you have everything sorted as you will have the log book and your daughter the receipt for the purchase.

Posted - 26 January 2010 : 15:42:44 Thanks GOOD, (nice acronym) I was asking because the agent who is dealing with the car said that my daughters name would have to on the log book. I have since rang them back and explained the situation to his secretary, but she seemed confused at what I was saying. Anyway she has agreed to send the log book back to me once the payment has cleared and I have asked her to send a receipt for the purchase of the car to my daughter. Was I right to this as she seemed surprised at what I was saying.

Posted - 26 January 2010 : 15:28:48 Hi Charlie,
Yes, you are correct. Your name should remain on the log book as the keeper but your daughter will be the owner.
I was able to keep my car when I declared BR but you, or your daughter, should get some sort of letter confirming that your daughter has bought the car from the OR so this will be the proof that she is the owner. |
