Posted - 08 March 2010 : 12:38:09 Hi I am a postman and went BR July 2008 and am paying an IPA which finishes October 2011. I have been talking at work and apparently all postmen are getting `phantom` shares in royal mail and they will be worth around £5000. They were annonunced as an incentive to all postmen in May 2007 and we will be recieving these in May 2012. I did not tell the OR about these when I had my interview as I had forgotten all about them. Also they are not actual shares ie stock market but when we get these we can keep them and get a dividend each year or sell them. Appparently this is very similar to the John Lewis scheme. What I would like to know is would I be able to keep these or will the OR want them.

Posted - 08 March 2010 : 16:24:52 I would say that you probably won't have to give the shares up to the OR as you won't be receiving them until 2012. Even though they were announced before you were BR you won't receive them until long after you are discharged.
I presume that if you leave the postal service before May 2012 that you won't be entitled to the shares?
