HI
I would be grateful if u could answer a question for me,I am going to go BR but i have 3 years of outstanding tax from my previous job as a taxi driver but do not no if i have to do my tax returns first or if i just submit my BR and say that i owe tax for the last 3 years, do i have to give them an amount because my tax is a debt and i now no that my tax debt will be covered by my BR,I am worried that if i do BR and have notsorted my tax that i will still be made to pay.
thankyou for your time - Tom

Hi Tom

you don't have to submit your tax returns if you are going bankrupt. In the absence of any other information HMRC will estimate their claim based on previous earnings, and this will be their claim in the bankruptcy.

As debtinfo said, the OR could class the non-submission of returns as neglecting your affairs, so it may be useful if you could at least provide a schedule of your earnings for the three years. It would be better if you could complete the returns, but cost will obviously be a factor.

Hi you wont be made to pay, but the OR may place a restriction on you for neglecting your business affairs, so if you can submit them at least you can show what you do and dont owe
