Posted - 22 March 2010 : 16:10:46 Is there any benefit in contacting my creditors to tell them I've gone Bankrupt or should I just wait for the OR to do this, even if the debts have been sold on in the last week or so? (I went BR earlier this month and have my telephone interview Wednesday)

Posted - 22 March 2010 : 18:19:18 If the creditors are still chasing then it won't do any harm to answer their phone calls. They will need the BR number (i.e. number xx of xx) that is on your BR form as well as the court and OR address details, all of which are on your BR certificate.
I found that after I answered their calls and passed on my BR details they stopped calling pretty much straight away. I did still receive a few letters for a month or so after declaring BR but these went straight into the shredder.
I was told by the BR Clerk that normally it takes 6 weeks for the OR to inform your creditors however as they are so busy it can easily take twice as long so you should expect the creditors to still be contacting you for a while. |

if any of your creditors are still giving you some stick, when you have your telephone interview, mention it to the OR stating that company X, Y & Z are still chasing you.
The OR will then send them a go away letter. My OR was that nice when i said i was still getting phone calls from two companies she said that she would fax them straight away, it must have worked as i did not get any further calls from those companies.
as part of the service offered to me by Paul @ reviva, all of my creditors were written to and updated.
so as a combination of the OR sending the bog standard letter, my expert updating my creditors and The OR faxing 2 of my creditors, my phone calls and letters dried up within about 2 - 3 weeks of declaring BR.
post man thinks ive moved and my phone is very quiet !

Posted - 22 March 2010 : 16:34:12 Hi Steve
There isn't usually much benefit in advising your creditors of the bankruptcy.
If you are being pestered by phone calls it may help, but not always.
You will probably find that creditors will still write to you post bankruptcy for a while till the information filters through their systems, but I would just forward everything to your OR and let them deal with it.
Good luck |
