Hi Everyone,
I haven't been on here for a while but this forum was my lifeline when my husband and I decided that bankruptcy was our only option in 2008. I was discharged in May 2009 and my husband was automatically discharged in October 2009. I can honestly say it was the best thing that we did in our situation but we still feel extremely guilty. The help and kind words received from this forum gave us the strength and we went into it with our eyes fully open.
Now we are the other end, we cannot ignore the question in insurance renewal quotes (has anyone in your huosehold been the subject of bankruptcy proceedings). Our caravan insurance is due for renewal and the insurance company sent us the renewal document and premium. Therefore, to comply properly, my husband called them yesterday to advise them that we had been declared BR and they said that they wouldn't insuure us unless we paid the premium in full. We have been paying Direct Debits, and never missed one, for years, so my husband asked them to check our history but the Underwriters still said they wanted in payment in full or they would not insure us.
So, my question is, does anyone know of a "BR friendly" Insurer and, if we advise our current Contents and Building Insurer, will they do the same thing. We are very fortunate in that we told both our parents who very supportive (they paid half each to the OR so that we could keep our caravan). My mum has offered to pay the premium and we can pay her monthly payment, however, we are two people who have gone bankrupt - we aren't criminals. I thought the issue would be over whether they would insure not, not if we could pay the direct debit!
Any experience/advice anyone can provide would be of help.

i think that housing has hit it right (again)
COOP were good for me
It most definatly pays to shop around use the phone not on line because as soon as you hit the answer as yes to BR on the computer it rejects you and asks you to contact the office

Hi Jayne
See my post of last wek for some info.
I am insured with three firms and my wife with 1 as below:
Buy to Let property - AXA - very good - monthly payments - no BR premium
Principal house - Co-op - excellent - monthly payments - no extra premium
My motor insurance - Saga - excellent - monthly payments - no extra premium - need to be over 50
My wifes motor insurance - Esure - excellent - monthly payment - no extra premium (my wife is NOT BR)
