Hello
I was declared bankrupt last Thursday and had my first phone call from the official receiver today which lasted about ten minutes just going through things like address and car etc, he then arranged with me another telephone conversation for Monday morning which he said would last around half hour.
He told me to dig out around a year of all my credit card statements the trouble is I know I dont have them that far back as I never was one for keeping paperwork for that long.
I have not done anything wrong no lavish goods or holidays just debts run up from not having any work and having to use cards/overdrafts to pay rent bills and so on but I am really worried and scared regarding this phone call I know I am bankrupt now but I feel there is still miles to go.
Can anyone assure me about the call and what to expect and any help/tips would be greatly received.
Thanks all

Hi Gedc

it is a standard request from the OR for you to supply or have your statements available, it makes their life easier, they can and do write to creditors and ask for proof of debt.

But not all creditors are interested in continuing correspondence.

when you speak to the OR have your petition in front of you and answer with the information on the petition.

Be helpful, courteous, truthful. answer the questions to the best of your ability but do not be tempted to go into free down load conversation, you may inadvertantly give the OR more information they wish to establish.

1/2 hour is very short time they normally say be available for 90 mins

good luck as long as you are telling the truth it will not be an issue

regards Richard

Hi gedc1

Others on here who have gone through the process can advise better on what to expect from the call, but as far as the lack of credit card statements is concerned I wouldn't worry at all

You can't give the OR what you haven't got - just give him what you have, and explain what happened - if he suspects anything he can always get the statements from the card companies

Good luck
