Posted - 20 June 2010 : 03:29:05 Hi, I'm new to the forum and never knew about it! My history, just over 6 year's ago I had no option other than to go bankrupt, can still remember the day! I went in a cafe for a coffee until the court was open. The clerk was friendly and helpful and it was a lady judge who signed, although I didn't have to see her. After doing that I opened a Nationwide basic cash account, but after a year I wanted an account with a debit card.
So I opened an account with the co-op over 5 years ago, incidently I never closed the Nationwide account and it shows on my credit files with 6 years history. So I've got the co-op's cashminder account, no probs with it.
This evening I rang the co-op call centre and ask them about applying for their general current account. The customer advisor said on your cashminder it is flagged with credit bureau adverse data! He said to get a current account I will have to get a physical copy of my credit files and take them in to the bank? I thought I could simply apply for a new current account as my files are now fully clean and washed
Has anyone got a full current account with them after their bankruptcy has dropped off the credit files? Any thought on this please? |

Wouldnt they upgrade your cashminder rather than opening up a new account?
Best of luck

They don't upgrade the Cashminder, you have to apply for a new current account, maybe they can go off account history, no missed direct debits etc. The Cashminder does have a 3 strikes and your out policy. |

Posted - 20 June 2010 : 13:57:11 Thanks for replies, I wonder though if call centre advisors get their facts wrong? I thought I could call in and apply for a new account with them, my bankruptcy data fell off a few weeeks ago on all of the credit agencies. Infact a few days early I've thought of LTSB but have heard they can be a bit difficult, I'm on DLA and not in full time employment.
Might call in a Co-op branch and see! |

Posted - 20 June 2010 : 11:47:17 The Co-op are a bit funny in some ways. They will give a BR person a Cashminder account but won't let them open a savings account or current account once they are discharged.
It sounds strange that they want you to take a copy of your credit file into a branch as they should be able to run a credit check on you quite easily and your BR debts should now have fallen off your file.
I think there are some other posts regarding full bank accounts that people have been able to open after being BR so it may be that you can open one with another bank rather than the Co-op. |

Posted - 20 June 2010 : 08:38:31 Hi,
The Co-op is the best bank in the land - in my view!
They will only entertain a "Full" current account after 6 years - post BR
I would get a copy of your file from Experien (or Equafax) and send them with an up to date account of where you are now
Good luck, Richard
