My husband and I have recently separated. I have approximately £25000 in credit card debt and a bank loan in my name only that I am struggling to pay. If I go bankrupt, will this affect my ex?

If you are going to declare BR then you will only be allowed a basic bank account so I would recommend opening an Co-op Cashminder account as they are very BR friendly.

If you open a non-basic account now then it will automatically be closed once you declare BR.

The debt is in my name only. We do have a joint bank account but I will be off of that soon once I open my own account (which I'm doing at another bank).

If the debt is only in your name then your ex will not be affected. If it is in both of your names then your ex will become liable for the debt once you declare BR.

Do you have anything that s in joint names such as property or bank accounts, if not then it should not affect him, unless you have transfered anything to him
