Morning all,

As from today I am car-less. It failed its MOT and would have cost in excess of £600 to put right (money which I obviously don't have). I phoned the breakdown and insurance cover folks, but apparently if you cancel before the current period expires you end up paying a fee of nearly half the year's fee. As I only have 2 months left before it expires, the helpful chap on the phone said it would be cheaper for me to continue until it expires rather than cancel now. The companies drive me nuts, they are out to get you every which way they can. I will not inform my OR of the car until I have cancelled the insurance, etc in a couple of months time. If I do I can just see it being really messy and unneccarily complicated. I am assuming my I&E will change to reflect the car (or lack of) and maybe my IPA, although my travel fees have risen over the past 6 months and I will now need to pay for train fares to visit my mum rather than take the car, so this probably ends up being pretty much the same. Shame about the car and was sorry to see it go. I did manage to get £90 for it though. Will now save up for another one, but probably not for 6 months or so.

Hi,

Leasing a car with Dunctonshas worked out well for us, we pay for service, tyres and MOT if applicable. Just a word of caution though, you do have to pay an advanced fee which is NOT a deposit.

We've had our car for nearly 2 years now and are due to upgrade in November. Will keep you all updated on how that process goes.

Hi Jane,

Thanks for your posting. I honestly hadn't thought of leasing a car. although I don't know whether the OR would be happy with that, would they? I am discharged now, but whether that would alter opinion, I'm not sure. Also I don't need a car for work or other essential travel, so I guess the OR would see it as a luxury rather than a necessity, although it would be useful for visiting and helping out my mum with her shopping and trips to the hospital. what do you think?

Let us know how you get on as I'm definitely interested. I'm ok at the moment as my car is only 5 years old, but it already has some strange rattles!

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 - it's over at last!

mm, not sure, it is the first on my search for car leasing for bad credit on google, I might just apply and see what happens
Skippy Posted - 19 August 2010 : 14:13:31
Do they accept people with poor credit ratings?

Its only just over £100 per month and very ecomonical on petrol

That's a good idea Jane and it's something I would have looked at if bank of mum hadn't helped me out (I do have to repay her though!). One company that gets good reviews (although they do have a high APR Duncton.

If you know of any others please post them.

Have you thought about getting a leased car? There are companies out there (not sure if I can link to one) but they cater for people with bad credit ratings and you would have no MOT or maintenance costs to allow for, just the monthly payment and petrol and insurance, just a thought

I have quite an old car, although in good condition but the amount I spend on its upkeep, I could probably lease a brand new one for the same amount, I am going to look into leasing one for when my car gets to be not worth the expense! I can not do without a car, I work a long way away and there is all the school runs, etc

Thanks Melanie,

I shouldn't moan as the car was 14 years old. I just wasn't expecting the work needed on it to be so extensive. My travelling to work already costs me £4,000 a year and is looking like it will rise in the coming months :( I did use the car each week to visit my mum, who has been diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, although she is currently in remission. As I will now have to use the train to visit her, will the OR look favourably on this or would they insist that I use my disposable income for this? I'm looking at around £40 a month travelling costs.

Thanks

Hi xmas Baby sorry to hear about the car...that's the trouble with old vehicles. Work out your travel costs and get in touch with OR?Moon Beaver straight away and amend your IPO.

Good luck with public transport! if it is anything like here, you will be looking at an extended work day!
