Hi, i am currently an undischarged bankrupt and am paying into an IPA. I have recently been involved in an RTA and my car is likely to be written off. The current value of my car is now only £500 so that is all i will be paid. Obviously when i got the car i paid more than this. my question is would the OR allow me to miss 1 or 2 payments to add to the £500 that i will get to purchase a reliable car? or will i be expected to get what i can for £500? i am currently paying £251 pm into my ipa.

Many thanks

Thanks for the responses. I have been given a courtesy car for the moment as the accident wasn't my fault so still have petrol to pay for. also even though i do not have my own car currently i still have an insurance policy and will have to continue paying whilst i am waiting for the cheque to arrive.

I think i will give them a call and see what they say. just thought i would check on here first.

You should contact the OR as, currently being without a car, you won't have expenditure on petrol, road tax, insurance, etc. but will on public transport if you need to get to work.

Normally you would be expected to buy the car, or anything else you didn't get an expenditure for, out of the income you have left over after paying your bills and IPA, so I doubt very much that they will let you stop your IPA to save up for a car but it doesn't do any harm to ask.

Stress that you need a reliable car for work and with an IPA you won't be able to afford a lot of repairs to a car that would probably need doing if you only had £500 to spend.

you wont know unless you ask, they dont have to, but they do have the authority to give you a break if they want to
