Hello

Will be filing for bankruptcy once I have moved house (renting so need to pass the credit check). Have used the beatmydebt online guide and other posters amounts to come up with my living expenses.....do they look ok?

Outgoing Amount
Rent £550
Council Tax £117
House Insurance £16
TV Licence (over 6 months) £29
Electric (No Gas) £70
Telephone (Mobile, Landline and Broadband) £50
Sky TV £30
Household (food, laundry, cleaning) £200
Car Road Tax £15
Car Maintenance and MOT £25
Car Insurance £65
Petrol £110
Meals at work £20
Clothing (I work in an office so need shirts etc) £40
Hairdressing £10

Total £1,347
Earnings £1,590
Left £243

I work from home sometimes so need the landline and broadband

I also drive for work sometimes but not every day (so need the car).....will I have to get my company to tell the OR this or will they just accept my word for it?

Also, once I have moved, I may have Gas and water to pay so the amount left over will be less!

Thanks

Hi there,

I am a single man and your I&E seem reasonable. I am not sure you can lump the TV licence together so I would adjust this to a monthly figure. Remember to bear in mind, the I&E you present to the OR does not mean you will get exactly what you have put down. Sometimes you get more, sometimes less, but it is always around the same mark. I put down for medical expenses, but this was not allowed, but I got holiday money. So it is swings and roundabouts as to how the individual OR office works it out.

I also put down £50 for broadband, etc, but I would recommend you list it as phone rather than TV, broadband, etc as they don't seem to like this.

Thanks, I did go on Holiday in December 2009 so that will show up.
I know I shouldnt have gone away on borrowed money but I stuck it all on the credit card....yes i am very stupid.

I am thinking the best I can hope for is to struggle on until January and file for bankruptcy then and hope the OR only wants to see 12 months bank statements. I hvae been through the last 9 months and there is no extravagent spending except moving costs and a few meals out.

Usually they will ask for 12 months, mostly they are looking for if large sums have been ut in or taken out or for any extravagent spending

Yeah I assumed Sky would be a no no but I guess I could pay for that out of the 30% of the Dispensible income that the OR doesnt give to the creditors

Actually, thats a good point, Dental and Optical (I wear contact lenses which are £15 pm).

would the OR want to see my last 6 months bank statements for example?

Cheers

couple of other things do you have any pets, do you regularly need any medicines, dentistry, glasses etc

OK first bare in mind that there are certain things that will just not be allowed such as SKY in your case, Everything else will be allowed it is simply how much will be allowed for them. Now the OR does have certain guidelines but will allow you to have whatever you ask for as long as you can provide a convincing enough arguement as to why you should differ from the guidelines, ie they are not set in stone

But in general i think that all of the amounts you have put down are reasonable, one thing i would do is scour your last few months of bank statements to see if there is anything else you spend money on as it is easy to forget things if they dont happan every month
