I was declared BR on 5th Nov 2009 and now I have noticed my NatWest account is still active, and they are charging me interest and bank charges each month. I saw that one other member on here said it took ages for NatWest to close their account, is this normal, and now I am discharged, should I leave it or tell them?

I don't really want to contact them as I aasumed the OR would do all this, but they only sent me forms, and dealt with me on the phone, then I have heard nothing form them since.
I will be opening a new Basic Barclays account when I move to London, as I am now homeless since having my flat repossessed, so until i have a new address I can get ID for, i only have a basic Post Office account to have my JSA paid into.

That's unusual as Nat west were normally fanatical about freezing accounts of people once they discovered through the insolvency register that a customer was bankrupt. I take it the account was declared on your list of creditors on the SOA?

You can always write to them and include a copy of your BR certificate as proof that you were declared.

A lot of people try to clean up their credit rating when they have been discharged using the instructions at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=677875. One reason it gives on that link to update your credit rating is:

"They can’t sell it on to another debt buyer, so you won’t get hassled in the future, with DCA that won’t believe you have been bankrupt – There have been instances of this happening 4 – 5 years after bankruptcy where the files have not been cleaned"

As NatWest haven't closed your account they may, at some point, get fed up with adding charges each month and sell it on to a Debt Collection Agency and they you may start getting hassled from them.
