I have my interview with the Official Receiver on Monday. Will anyone please help me with some advice of how survive it?
The debts were large but also from a time before I had a mental health breakdown. Along with other issues the debts contribited to the breakdown. Since the breakdown I have no new debts (apart from some manageable arrears in my electric bill). Another problem is that the time before the breakdown is a bit of a blur (my health really hit rock bottom).

I am worried that because the debt was high and I can’t remember too much from the time of the debts, the Receiver will throw the book at me. These debts were from a lifestyle and an ex-wife that no longer exist. I have suffered as I lost everything (home, job, relationship with my children) during this period of my life.
I made mistakes but I have learnt from this time and I will never get into a mess like then again.

Please help. At the interview I am going to be as honest as possible and tell them that I could not cope during this time. I may be over-worrying because I don’t remember all the detail of the debts. I just remember I tried my best but it was not enough to stop my debts getting out of control.

I have suffered and learnt from the debts. I just hope the Receiver can understand this. Are the Receivers hard-faced or do they understand life is full of problems and stresses.

thanks

Hi gjm

All I can do is concur with what has been said above. Please try not to worry and tell the truth.

Hope all goes well!

Have your statement of affairs to hand, a glass of water and take your time.

The OR's are mostly nice people trying to find out the route cause of your bankruptcy and if you have any assetts to share between creditors.

If you have nothing to hide and are trying to be as honest as possible then the interview will be OK.

Two words - be honest. If you can't remember when/why you took a particular loan then tell the OR. If you didn't take out a loan/CC for anything in particular then 'general expenses' is fine.

There is no such thing as a debt being too high. If you owed less than £15k then a Debt Relief Order may have been better for you so the OR is used to dealing with large amounts of debt. In my case my debt was about £55k and after the interview the OR mentioned 'You didn't do anything that other people haven't done'. I had 4 credit cards and, I think, 4 loans of which at least 2 were consolidation loans. I was completely honest with the OR and didn't have any problems during or after the interview.

I had enough DI for an IPA, which I was more than happy to pay. I mentioned this to the OR during the interview and this seemed to go down well. I don't know if other people had tried to get out of an IPA or not but the OR seemed quite taken aback by my attitude to being happy to pay an IPA.

As for discharge I had my interview 10 days after BR, my first IPA payment made 3 months after BR, I received a letter from the OR saying my case had been passed to the RTLU 5 months after BR and received an ED about 6.5 months after BR.

This will be my first interview.

I am praying for an early discharge (I know if I get it will be a bonus) because of health reasons. I have serious relationship problems with my current partner and am in danger of losing my two young children, all becuase of my current health issues. The bankruptcy is not helping. I did not want to do it but I had no real choice but do it. I just want this horrible part of my life to be over.

I don't want to be moaning but I am not coping too well at the moment.

Is this another interview or your first, as I see you have a few threads about Early Discharge.
