Hello,
please can you clarify whether or not I qualify for a discount on court fees for bankruptcy if i am registered as unemployed? If so what evidence do i require to bring to court with myself of this in order to qualify for the discount?

Hi David,
to reiterate Blackie's point, the insolvency service won't want to refund any fees, and it will be even harder now, with the burden of proof being even higher, as they are trying to maximise fee income from any source( case in point being the revision of IPA's).

Hi David
As Richard has pointed out, there are recent threads which mention court fees and costs.
If you are in receipt of Income Support, Income based Job Seekers Allowance, State Pension Guarantee Credit, Working Tax Credit but NOT child tax credit and Income based employment and support allowance and can provide proof of receipt, you can complete form ex160a and you will only have to pay the £450 for your bankruptcy. The court fee will be waived. However if you receive any other benefit or allowance or need to claim a refund based on your annual income, you will have to pay the full £600 when you make yourself bankrupt and you have 6 months to claim a refund on form EX160a. Be warned, though, that it is not easy to claim a refund as the Insolvency Service will make any excuse for not giving a refund. You have to prove, almost beyond doubt, that you are receiving benfits at the time of your bankruptcy.
