Hi I was discharged from bankruptcy in August 2009. I am still struggling. I have a basic bank account but still cannot get any credit. I applied for one of the credit cards recommended by Martin Lewis for bankrupts which are about 40% APR. He suggested spending 5 quid then paying it off straight waway to improve my credit score. My score is 696 at present which is poor. Any suggestions as to how I can improve my life with credit? My life is still a mess and I think I made a huge mistake going bankrupt.

who knows, perhaps someone gave her the money for a large deposit, maybe she has a a very high interest rate, you will find that there is always someone out there who will lend to you even while you are bankrupt, but it is usualy from less reputable companies and comes with a large cost

Thankyou for advice.

I know someone who was declared bankrupt 2 years ago and is now able to get a mortgage. How does that happen????

If you wait the 6 years then BR drops off your file then anyway. I really wouldn't stress about not getting credit if you don't need it.

I do struggle a bit with the money I have coming in but that is not the reason to gain credit. I want to improve my credit score so that I can gain credit when I need to in the future.

Do you mean you are struggling to survive on the money you have coming in? If so, getting credit will just put you back in the same situation you were in pre BR.
