worried wife to be Posted - 17 January 2011 : 12:13:33
Can any one please give me some advice???
My 'other half' has approx £23k of debt which he got about 5 years ago. We have only been together for the last 18 months and I didn't know about his debt situation. We started renting a house together, along with my 2 kids; 9 months ago and now letters are arriving almost daily about debt collection. He told me that he is going to declare himself bankrupt but he doesn't know who to find out information on his largest debt (approx £18K) with HSBC and they, as yet, have not been in touch. He has no records of when he took the loan out (or any account or reference numbers) and does not have the same bank account anymore so can't find out anything.
I am going to try to sort it out for him as he just keeps burying his head in the sand hoping it will go away!
Also how do I keep these creditors away as it is not my debt?
Will this affect me and my finances in any way?
Any help would be great thanks as I am finding this very worrying.
Thank you

Hi WW 2B

he should be able tofind details of debt on credit file (equifax or experian)

should not effect you unless you have joint debts.

yes he will get creditors chasing him until he declares BR.

regards Richard
