I am a mature student in 1st year at uni and get a grant, do i have to include this as income on my forms. Is it right that student loans cannot be included in bankruptcy, ? Also will bankrupcy affect my studies ie will i be able to continue? thanks.

Fingers crossed that you pass this first year.

I will look at doing what you suggest. I could offer reduced payments at the moment, but if I don't pass 1st year I won't be able to continue in 2nd year therefore would lose funds so would be back to square 1.

You would need to approach your creditors, but I'm afraid I don't think they would be willing to wait until you have finished before seeing any money from you.

Do you have enough money to be able to set up a debt management plan in the meantime?

Hi Richard, thanks for your help. I'll have to think about what I am going to do as I don't want to leave uni, going there to retrain and give me hope for the future was the main reason for going in the first place. Maybe creditors will wait until I have finished uni and got a job

yes all income must be listed on forms

student loans cannot be included in Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy can be mentally challenging but no more than having loads of creditors constantly chasing you. so it may affect studies

if you are year 1 and the normal credit facilities are removed will you be able to afford to continue in University ? No one will stop you studying and retraining the only restriction will be you and your bank balance.
