I was discharged in May 2010, I would like a credit card not becuase I need credit as I have never been so well off. I need it for things like hire cars when we go on holiday etc.
Been turned down by capital one and vanquis :(
Any idea's ? |

I have that card and yes it does have payment protection but not to the same extent as a credit card and to hire a car you have to preload an amount that covers the hire companys request. Cash plus use overseas call centres and calling them in the event of problems can be expensive. |

The Cashplus prepaid Mastercard has purchase protection the same as a credit card, and there is also a car hire facility, but this needs to be activated.

Pre paid cards dont normally work with car hire companys unless you agree with the card company first.You will have to load quite a lot of money on the card which is locked by the hire company untill the hire is completed .If things go wrong you stand to loose a lot of cash as you are not protected by the Credit Card act....as its not a credit card. |

I agree with Viki - there are some excellent prepaid cards about.
Don't forget the BR will stay on your record for the full six years so this might be why you have been turned down.

I suggest you get a pre-paid credit card, they are good in emergencies and require no credit checks. Some of the other posters might recommend some, personally I've got the Paypal one, although I've not used it for a while, I used to sell old clothes etc on ebay and then transfer it to the card to use.

Do you need to clear up your credit profile?
I believe Paul at Reviva has an excellent e book that he can email to you.
I am sure that 1 of Our Experts will post soon with some information.
