Posted - 18 April 2011 : 22:31:19 I declared bankruptcy in 2007 with BRU which expires in June 2011. I am trying to find the best way to start re-building my credit rating and would really appreciate some help with the following please! 1. My credit report shows a number of credit agreements (which were included in my Bankruptcy) as defaulted whilst others show as satisfied. Two also show as 'not updated' - what should the status read? 2. Can I apply for a discharge certificate once my BRU expires? Is it worth doing this to send to my creditors or will my entry on the Insolvency Register be enough? many thanks

Posted - 24 May 2011 : 10:28:04 Hi both - thank you so much for your relpies, it's very much appreciated. There's such a wealth of information out there that it's so useful to have a clear and concise forum such as this. Something rather odd has happened though - my BRU end date is 15th June, 2011 however it's no longer showing on the Insolvency Register. Whilst I'm glad in one respect, I had been waiting for the update to chow as discharged so I could print the copy off. I do have a copy of the Register entry from early May which shows the details so am wondering if this is sufficient to send to the creditors? My main confusion is whether my discharge took place 12 months after the bankruptcy was declared or whether it actually takes effect on the BRU expires? many thanks Louisella

Your BR will remain on your credit record until six years after you went to court. You should make sure that any defaults registered after the date you went bankrupt are removed.
Once you have been discharged then you need to print off copies of the discharge notice from the Insolvency Register and sent them to those creditors.
