I moved from scotland to York a year ago, so had my debt before moving to York. Therefore I'm unsure if declaring myself bankrupt would go by English or scottish law? Do I need to be in a certain amount of debt before I can declare bankruptcy? As my debt is roughly £7000.

If you have no assets and no disposable income over £50 per month after your essential bills have been paid then a Debt Relief Order may be the way forward.

I'd also consider a debt management plan as well.

The world is broken, halos fail to glisten
We try to make a difference but no one wants to listen
Hail the preachers, fake and proud
Their doctrines will be cloud
Then they'll dissipate like snowflakes in an ocean

Hiya Lindsay.mc

For your information it would be England where you petitioned for your bankruptcy as York is your centre of main interest. However, as your debt level is under £15000, there may be another way of getting the debts written off. Can you come back to the forum and tell us whether you own any assets and your income?

All the best
