Hi,
I've finally reached the end of my IPA 3 years after my bankrupty and have had a letter confirming the last payment has been received, but I've also received another letter.
This letter is from the Case Officer for the OR and I am being asked to confirm "The source of the funds used to petition for your bankruptcy". Tbh I can't remember, I think it was a combination of money left in my current account and money borrowed from my partner and family, I don't even remember how much it was!
My question is why are they asking for this information?

What I remember is emptying my current account, borrowing from my friend and borrowing from my mother.
Should I put that and give their names and addresses as they have asked for them if it was a third party - then it'd be down to them what they do. |

Most of the time it is for stats purposes (ie for the government to see how people on average are affording the fees) but it has been known for funds to be refunded if they were paid by a 3rd party, What cab happen is all the people in a particular year pay into their bankruptcy fees through the various means and the IS takes the cut that they are entitled to. If after all is said and done the OR collects more for their fees than they need (ie all their costs are paid) then they have a surplus and can choose to refund. |

Thanks for the response. Yea it feels great, it's the last peice of the puzzle for my new life!
No assets, I was expecting a baby, living under a friends roof paying a little rent and my car was near worthless. I was discharged very quickly.
So should I respond to the letter saying that I paid part of it myself and part of it was borrowed from my friend? Or shall I say I borrowed it all? Would that be dishonest? |

Congratulations on making the final payment, it's a great feeling isn't it?!?!
Did you have any assets? The reason I'm asking is that I remember one poster had their fees repaid after their assets were realised as they had been paid by a third party. I'm not saying that's what will happen in your case, but you can hope!
